The Green Lung Movement: Towards a Tobacco-Free Environment

Recently I came across a fantastic grassroots organization named the Green Lung Movement which advocates for a tobacco free environment not only on campuses, but also throughout Malaysia as a whole. What's awesome I think about this organization - among other things - is that they hold workshops in schools. I can't begin to emphasize how important health education in schools is. The fact is, there is just not enough of it. There's far more of those stupid 'kamu harus cinta buku' talks in schools which doesn't really have an effect at all. The problem about organizing school talks on health is that it is riddled with unnecessary bureaucracy and permeated with individuals who overthink. On top of that - and I'm sorry to say this - these individuals have reached that age in their lives where they can no longer relate to kids. What we need are young, dynamic people who know a thing or two about health education to go to these schools and inspire them. It's excellent to know that there are organizations out there like this one who are helping the community reduce tobacco use.
